Appeal

Appeal

Come sit with me within fields Before

the sun smashes the horizon Like a flock

singing praises in the low swell of tall grasses.

There the flowers you did not cut Gather

an entire generation with good intentions

In the sweet muzzles of deer grazing on dull earth.

I gaze across the land’s desperate burrowings—

thrumming chasms, long forgotten—to plead

my prayers into absence’s black ore.

Open these throbbing veins—Not from the body,

but those carried in white spires Where daylight

has passed through my house and made it holy.

Will you kneel with me in this wide silence And wait

for pears to fall from their tree perches while breath

that I have left is shaken from my shoulders.

There is something sad in this poem, but it is beautiful.

Will you kneel with me in this wide silence And wait
for pears to fall from their tree perches

Wonderful lines and image. The automatic response is affirmative.

Thank you Thomas and you’re right, there is a certain sadness within this. This is both a plea and a lament which is why I chose the title that I did. Thank you for coming to my page to read and comment

Gorgeous! For me, the whole poem pivots on this line: “Will you kneel with me in this wide silence And wait”
You are so very talented… it is a privilege to read such craftsmanship in your words. 🙂
